Tamia Boyd, one of 39 codefendants, appeared in court for the first time on Friday following her arrest and indictment in October 2024. She faces three counts of violating Georgia's RICO act. Boyd's attorney stated she was unaware of the indictment until her recent arrest on an outstanding warrant after missing previous court dates. She was reportedly pulled over for an illegal U-turn in Albany, Georgia.
The charges are linked to "Operation Matrix," a 14-month investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies that uncovered a drug-smuggling network. This operation transported drugs from metro-Atlanta to correctional facilities within Georgia and across state lines into South Carolina. During the investigation, authorities seized approximately 13 kilograms of methamphetamine, over one kilogram of fentanyl, 17 firearms, and more than $190,000 in cash.
Boyd entered a plea of not guilty and requested a jury trial. Her court date for a trial docket call is scheduled for October 20. For the 36 other defendants who have already been tried, Chatham County Superior Court has imposed a combined total of 161 years in prison, 353 years of probation or suspended sentences, and $2.5 million in fines.
