Boyfriend pleads guilty to murder moments before trial

Douglas Hairston pleaded guilty to murder and additional charges moments before his trial was scheduled to commence. The prosecution team was prepared to present their case, but Hairston's plea averted a jury's deliberation. The victim, Breanna Woods, had reportedly planned to end her relationship with Hairston on the day of the fatal incident. Their relationship had lasted only four months.

Woods was found deceased in her condo after suffering a gunshot and machete attack. Her mother recounted being on a FaceTime call with her daughter shortly before the event, during which Hairston made an odd remark. Hairston was apprehended nearby with blood on his clothing. He was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole, along with a ten-year suspended sentence.
