Marc Ballabriga, 55, recorded disturbing videos filled with conspiracy theories and doomsday predictions just days before he and his partner, Marine Rousseau, 41, allegedly abandoned their two young sons in a Portuguese forest. Ballabriga, a former police officer, claimed in videos dated May 15 that Armageddon would begin on May 22 and urged people to seek shelter in nature.
The French couple is accused of leaving their five and three-year-old boys blindfolded in a forest on May 19 as part of a twisted game. The children were discovered crying alone on a rural road. Authorities located Rousseau and Ballabriga approximately 100 miles away near Lisbon.
Both Ballabriga and Rousseau were arrested on May 21 and have been refused bail pending their trial. Reports suggest the couple may have discussed pretending to be insane following their arrest. A judge is expected to rule on their bail status soon.
