20 Apr
Summary
- Antioch Police use Flock cameras to solve 31 felony cases since August.
- A new portal offers public access to Flock camera data and usage.
- An oversight commission monitors cameras for privacy and data access.

The Antioch Police Department has introduced a new transparency portal for its Flock camera system, enhancing public access to data. This initiative is a key component of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, designed to foster greater accountability. Since August, the department has utilized Flock cameras to successfully resolve 31 felony cases and recover thousands of dollars worth of community property.
The transparency portal allows the public to view details such as the number of camera reads, searches conducted, and the agencies involved, along with associated case numbers and justification for access. Lieutenant Bill Whitaker emphasized the department's commitment to transparency, stating, "We have nothing to hide. We want our community to see that."
The Antioch Police Oversight Commission, established after a previous scandal, will continue to audit the Flock camera system. Commission Chair Porshe Taylor highlighted the commission's focus on privacy, particularly ensuring data is not accessed by out-of-state or federal agencies. Taylor also noted that officers must now provide specific reasons for further investigations triggered by camera data, reinforcing oversight.
