An awareness seminar was recently conducted in Anantapur for medical shop owners and pharmacists concerning narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The event, led by Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh, featured virtual addresses by EAGLE Wing IGP Aake Ravi Krishna. He detailed 'Operation Garuda', an initiative to control drug proliferation within the state through intensified surveillance and unannounced inspections of pharmacies across Andhra Pradesh.
Last year saw the formation of approximately 100 special inspection teams to conduct large-scale checks. Strict actions are slated for any establishment found selling Schedule-H, H1, and X drugs without a valid prescription. The IGP expressed significant concern regarding the rising use of substances such as cocaine, sedatives, alprazolam, and amphetamines among the youth, urging strict adherence to legal guidelines by medical shops. Cooperation between law enforcement, the Drugs Control Department, and the public is deemed crucial.
