Summary
- Amritsar police bust cross-border smuggling module with Pakistan links
- 2.5 kg of heroin and 5 sophisticated pistols recovered
- Accused were acting under directions of Pakistan-based smuggler
In a recent intelligence-led operation, the Counter Intelligence unit of Amritsar police has busted a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module with links to Pakistan. On October 3rd, the authorities apprehended two operatives, Gurjant Singh and Gurvel Singh, both residents of Tarn Taran.
During the operation, the police recovered 2.5 kg of heroin and five sophisticated pistols along with magazines. Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were acting under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler to transport the contraband across the border. The recovered arms were intended to be supplied to gangsters and criminals to fuel unlawful activities in Punjab.
An FIR has been registered, and further investigations are underway to expose the full nexus, including the backward and forward linkages of the network. This follows a similar operation on October 2nd, when Amritsar police arrested five operatives, including a juvenile, and recovered 1.5 kg of heroin and several pistols from another Pakistan-linked smuggling network.
