Delhi HC Orders Bachchan to Appear in Personality Rights Case
11 Oct
Summary
- Amitabh Bachchan must appear in court if settlement is incomplete.
- Mediation reached an agreement with some defendants.
- The next hearing is scheduled for November 16.
The Delhi High Court has issued a directive for Amitabh Bachchan to personally appear in court should the settlement in his personality rights case remain incomplete. Justice Purushaindra K Kaurav made this order after the court was informed that mediation had successfully facilitated an amicable settlement with several defendants.
However, the formal signing of this agreement has been postponed due to logistical challenges pertaining to Mr. Bachchan. The court has granted him additional time to finalize these formalities and submit the formal agreement on record. The case is slated for its next hearing on November 16.
The High Court emphasized that in the event of a non-settlement or an incomplete resolution, Mr. Bachchan's personal presence would be mandatory if he intends to continue pursuing his claims. Such attendance would empower the court to utilize its authority under the Code of Civil Procedure and Section 168 of the BSA, which allows judges to inquire about any pertinent facts.
