A 54-year-old American tourist from California, Stein Cole, was found dead on Monday afternoon in Bangkok, Thailand, following a violent altercation stemming from a love triangle. Cole was reportedly pleading with his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, Nan Phawt Ar Cho, to resume their relationship outside a shop.
During this encounter, Cho's current partner, 26-year-old Saw Nay Lin Oo, along with three other men including Cho's brother, allegedly attacked Cole. The group reportedly used a 10-inch knife and a three-foot metal pipe to batter Cole to death. Police discovered Cole with five stab wounds and both legs broken.
Authorities stated that Cole had been continuously following his ex-girlfriend and had shown up intoxicated and threatening with a knife the previous night. The suspects claimed the attack escalated uncontrollably after Cole allegedly produced a knife first, though the shop owner attempted to de-escalate the situation. Cole's ex-girlfriend's family reportedly disapproved of the relationship.
