A man has been arrested following the theft of an ambulance from outside Royal Stoke hospital. The incident took place around 8:15 PM GMT on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The stolen vehicle contained a patient and a paramedic when it was driven away.
Fortunately, none of the individuals inside the ambulance sustained injuries. Police pursued the vehicle until it stopped at an Esso petrol station in Newcastle-under-Lyme. A subsequent search led to the apprehension of a 31-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent.
He was arrested on suspicion of several serious offenses, including kidnap, vehicle theft, drink driving, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. The suspect was in custody for questioning on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Ambulance service officials confirmed a second ambulance was dispatched to the patient while staff well-being was checked.
