On October 31, 2025, the police in Kolkata have taken the next step in the investigation of the October 22 murder of 26-year-old Rahul Lal. Two days after arresting the alleged perpetrators, Shaktikant Behra and Santosh Behra, both plastic flower traders from Dhenkanal, Odisha, the police have moved to carry out a test identification parade (TIP) of the accused.
The court has finalized the TIP date for November 3, when the hotel staff who were present at the time of the incident will identify the two men. According to the police, the TIP is a crucial part of the evidence-gathering process. Authorities are also investigating whether the accused received any help in fleeing the city on the day of the murder.
The police claim that Lal had planned to rob the two accused inside the hotel room and even held them at knifepoint. However, the situation escalated, and Lal died when the accused reportedly tried to resist him. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the accused had any accomplices in the crime.
