SP's 37-Year-Old Threat to Judge Revived by Court
2 Dec
Summary
- A 37-year-old incident of an SP threatening a Sessions Judge has been revived.
- The Allahabad High Court ordered an investigation into the former SP's conduct.
- The court sought details on actions taken against the officer after 37 years.
The Allahabad High Court has taken up a 37-year-old incident involving a former Superintendent of Police (SP) who allegedly threatened a sitting Sessions Judge. The court deemed the officer's past conduct, described as threatening to drag the judge to the police station, too serious to ignore despite the significant passage of time.
The High Court's division bench reviewed remarks made by the presiding officer in 1988, detailing the SP's alleged audacity. The trial judge at the time had noted the SP behaved "like a goon" and recommended departmental action, while refraining from initiating criminal contempt proceedings.
In light of these historical allegations, the court has now mandated the Director General of Police in Uttar Pradesh to submit a personal affidavit. This affidavit must disclose the current status of the officer and outline any actions taken against him concerning the incident that occurred 37 years ago.
