Five Arrested in Fatal Alabama Teen Shooting

An 18-year-old high school senior, Brandon Campbell, was fatally shot on January 10th in Birmingham, Alabama, with his 17-year-old friend, Sam Slaughter, sustaining injuries. The shooting occurred on Tuscaloosa Avenue, and police found the teens after their vehicle crashed into a tree. Campbell died at the scene, while Slaughter was hospitalized. Authorities have since arrested five individuals, including Algie Eugene Surrell Jr., Kavari Wells, Ricco Wells, and two 17-year-old juveniles, charging them with various offenses including capital murder and attempted murder.

While the motive remains unconfirmed, reports suggest the victims were targeted for a robbery. The Pleasant Grove High School community, where Campbell was a senior, organized a balloon release to commemorate his life. Attendees included Campbell's sister, friends, school staff, and Slaughter's parents, who shared memories of Campbell's vibrant personality. Slaughter, who underwent surgery for multiple gunshot wounds, was able to communicate with his family during the event.
