Stephen Malone, the 32-year-old police chief of Collinsville, Alabama, was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 1, 2026. Police stated Malone assaulted a woman he was dating at her residence following an argument that escalated from accusations of cheating. The dispute, which began around 3 a.m., turned physical when Malone allegedly struck the victim repeatedly and choked her.
Responding investigators observed injuries on the woman, including scratches and bruises. She claimed she acted in self-defense. Malone, however, initially suggested the victim was intoxicated and denied causing her injuries, later claiming she had assaulted him. Investigators identified Malone as the primary aggressor based on the victim's statements and observed injuries.
Malone has since resigned from his Collinsville police chief position, a role he reportedly held since 2025. A new interim chief has been appointed. Malone was taken into custody at the Downtown Detention Center and was released on February 2, 2026, with his next court appearance scheduled for February 10, 2026.
