A 9-month-old boy has died, and his mother, Ja'Keisa Knox, has been arrested and charged with child abuse. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office responded to a call from Knox on June 30, reporting she found her son unresponsive upon returning from work. Investigators determined the infant was allegedly left alone in their apartment for approximately eight hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while Knox was at work.
During the investigation, medical personnel reported that the child displayed signs of severe malnourishment and was significantly underweight, in addition to numerous physical injuries. These findings prompted the involvement of the Violent Crimes Unit. The infant was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are continuing their investigation and stated that further charges may be filed following the autopsy report.
