Mother, Son Slain in Akron Shooting; Suspect Arrested

A devastating shooting on Saturday night in Akron resulted in the deaths of a 47-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son. The incident occurred near 30 West Wilbeth Road. Officers responding to the scene discovered a car crashed into the tree line and partially on fire. Inside, they found the young boy, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boy's mother, who was also shot, was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where she later passed away. A 2-year-old boy, her other son, was found to be unharmed and was taken to Akron Children's Hospital for observation. Authorities identified 28-year-old Brandon T. Casto as the suspect. He was apprehended after turning himself in to the Meigs County Sheriff's Office and is currently held on charges of aggravated murder and felonious assault. The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains ongoing.
