Brothers' Airport Assault Trial Ends in No Verdict
29 May
Summary
- Two brothers will not face a third trial for assaulting a police officer.
- Previous juries could not reach verdicts on the assault charges.
- One brother awaits sentencing for assaulting two other officers.

A potential third trial for two brothers accused of assaulting a police officer at Manchester Airport has been halted. Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, both from Rochdale, faced allegations of causing actual bodily harm to Pc Zachary Marsden in July 2024. However, two consecutive juries at Liverpool Crown Court failed to reach unanimous verdicts on these charges.
The brothers maintained their innocence, asserting they acted in lawful self-defence or in defence of each other. The second jury was discharged last week after deliberating for nearly 20 hours over a five-week trial period.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz is scheduled for sentencing on June 26. This follows his conviction during an earlier trial for the assault of Pc Lydia Ward and Pc Ellie Cook during the same July 23 incident. Amaaz has been remanded in custody since that conviction.
