- He meticulously planned the murder of a sex worker he lured.
- The landlord discovered blood traces, leading to the discovery.
A horrifying discovery was made at an Airbnb rental in Oldbury, West Midlands, when a guest reported pools of blood on the stairs. The property, rented by forensic science student Benjamin Day, had been turned into a 'kill room,' lined with plastic sheeting and splattered with blood.
Day, who was obsessed with the serial killer TV series Dexter, meticulously planned the murder of Maria Saceanu, a 24-year-old sex worker. He lured her to the Airbnb on Bancroft Road, Tividale, on the evening of December 20, 2026. There, he brutally stabbed her 78 times, with injuries suggesting she attempted to defend herself.
The plan unraveled when Day cut his hand while dismembering his victim. He fled the scene around 12:30 AM on December 21, 2026, seeking medical attention. Shortly after, another guest noticed blood and alerted the Airbnb host, who then called the police.
Investigators found a detailed 'shopping list' on Day's phone, including items for a killing and body disposal. He was apprehended by police, initially fabricating a story about being attacked by a fox. Day has since pleaded guilty to murder at Wolverhampton Crown Court. The investigation significantly impacted the local community and the Airbnb host, who has since implemented stricter security measures.
