Detectives are digitizing approximately 90 crates of evidence, with AI tools like Söze being considered to accelerate the analysis. This technology has previously demonstrated the ability to solve complex cases significantly faster than human detectives. The investigation has narrowed down persons of interest from around 100 to fewer than 20, with alibis being re-examined.
Police have reissued an e-fit of a white male, described as mid to late 20s, 5ft 10ins, who was possibly with Melanie that night. They are also seeking information about her missing clothing and are forensically testing the bin bags and rope found with her remains. Melanie's family has expressed profound grief and a deep desire for answers after decades of uncertainty.
