Sharma confessed to the authorities that he was deeply unhappy with his daughter's choice to marry against his wishes. In a fit of rage, he committed the crime. Inquest proceedings have been completed, and an FIR has been filed under BNS 103 (1) for murder. While Sharma is in custody, other family members involved are reportedly absconding.
