Victor Manuel Duarte Arias, 31, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges including kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, battery, and cruelty to children. He received a non-negotiated sentence of 20 years in prison, to be followed by 10 years of probation. As part of the sentence, he must pay restitution and is prohibited from contacting the victims.
The investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office began in August 2025 following a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute. Officers arrived to find the female victim with multiple injuries, including a fractured foot, bite marks, and signs of strangulation, while Duarte Arias was uninjured. The victim reported the abuse spanned three days and included strangulation, punching, and biting, with efforts by Duarte Arias to prevent her escape.
Further investigation revealed that one child witnessed the immediate violence, while a second child had observed other instances of domestic violence. Prosecutors highlighted the acts of strangulation as particularly concerning indicators of potential lethality. The sentence aims to ensure accountability, protect the victim, and send a strong message against domestic violence.
