Actresses Arrested for Smuggling 30kg of Hydroponic Weed from Thailand

According to a report by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on November 15th, 2025, the Chennai unit of the agency has uncovered a drug smuggling operation targeting the Tamil film industry. On November 9th, 2025, the NCB seized 30kg of hydroponic ganja at the Chennai airport.
The drugs were being smuggled by two female flyers, Sangeetha and Shabana, who were intercepted upon arrival from Thailand. Investigations revealed that one of the women, Sangeetha, is a part-time actor appearing in movies and television.
The NCB's Chennai zonal director, P Aravindhan, stated that the women were hired by a smuggling cartel to bring the hydroponic weed from Phuket, Thailand. However, the receiver who was supposed to collect the drugs managed to flee following the detention of the two flyers.
The NCB has launched a hunt to trace the full network behind this drug trafficking operation targeting the Tamil film industry. Authorities are working to uncover the extent of the cartel's activities and apprehend all those involved.
