A British actress, Emaa Hussen, 34, has been charged in Sydney with attempting to import a significant quantity of methamphetamine into Australia. The alleged smuggling operation involved 320 kilograms of the drug, reportedly concealed within bags of charcoal in shipping containers originating from Ghana. The estimated street value of the seized methamphetamine is approximately A$296 million.
Australian authorities launched an investigation in April after border officials identified irregularities in two shipping containers at Sydney's Port Botany. Subsequent X-ray examinations revealed a white crystalline substance, later confirmed to be methamphetamine. Police intercepted the shipment before it reached a storage facility in Sydney's western suburbs. Hussen, who previously appeared in an Eastenders spin-off and the Jason Statham film "Hummingbird" (also known as "Redemption"), was refused bail during an earlier court appearance. She is scheduled to return to court in August. She faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
