According to court documents, Raymond Boodarian was facing the possibility of a death sentence for the July killings of Robin Kaye and her songwriter husband Tom Deluca at their $4.5 million Los Angeles home.
However, on November 14, 2025, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi ruled that Boodarian was "not presently competent to stand trial" due to a psychiatric condition. The judge ordered the suspect to be moved to a state facility for treatment with psychotropic medication, arguing that "restoration is in the interest of justice" given the severity of the homicide case.
Prosecutors had claimed that Boodarian was burglarizing the couple's home when they returned, leading to a confrontation that resulted in their deaths. The bodies of Kaye, 70, and Deluca, 70, were only discovered four days later after concerned family members requested a welfare check.
