Accused Criminal Dies by Suicide After Video Call to Wife

On 2025-11-16, a 36-year-old man named Kirtan died by suicide near Sinkona on the Madikeri-Mysuru highway. Kirtan, a resident of Kibbetta in Somwarpet taluk, was accused in various criminal cases, including theft, and had been released from jail just 5 days prior to the incident.
Kirtan, who was married to Jyoti of Kushalnagar 3 years ago, was involved in theft, which led to a dispute between the two. Jyoti had gone to her hometown due to the dispute. Kirtan had threatened to die by suicide in the past to get his wife to return home.
On the day of the incident, Kirtan went to an estate in a deserted area near Sinkona and called his wife Jyoti on a video call, asking her to come with him. When she refused, Kirtan allegedly hanged himself. Madikeri Rural police are investigating the case and have handed over the body to Kirtan's family members after the postmortem.
