Mother Describes Daughter's Bruises Amid Abuse Trial
12 Mar
Summary
- Mother saw bruises on daughter prior to death.
- Accused allegedly controlled wife's access to essentials.
- Daughter moved from South Africa to UK in 2007.

The mother of a woman who died in November 2017 has testified about alleged abuse by her husband. Michelle Baird described seeing bruises on her daughter, Tarryn Baird, between 2015 and 2017, attributing them to incidents like falling in the shower or fainting.
Winchester Crown Court heard that Tarryn, aged 34 at the time of her death, allegedly had to ask her husband, Christopher Trybus, for permission to use her own house and car keys. Trybus, who denies charges of manslaughter, controlling and coercive behaviour, and rape, allegedly controlled Baird through threats, sexual assault, financial restriction, and isolation.
Originally from South Africa, Tarryn Baird moved to the UK with Trybus in 2007. They married in 2009. The court heard Tarryn followed a strict daily routine dictated by Trybus, including preparing his meals at specific times and remaining outside his office while he worked.
Michelle Baird noted a change in her daughter's behaviour towards the end of 2015, with Tarryn frequently cancelling plans and becoming withdrawn. Despite her mother's concerns, Tarryn would often claim she was fine, mentioning only vague spells of dizziness or heart issues.
