In a landmark ruling on November 14, 2025, the special POCSO Court in Aurangabad sentenced Mithun Kumar to a combined jail term for abducting a minor girl and attempting to force her into marriage.
The court found Mithun Kumar guilty under Section 366 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was awarded five years' imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000 under the IPC, along with an additional three years' imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000 under the POCSO Act. Both sentences will run concurrently.
The case began on May 4, 2023, when the survivor's mother filed an FIR alleging that Mithun Kumar had been inappropriately eyeing her minor daughter, prompting the family to send the girl to her maternal uncle's home. The accused then abducted the girl from the village of Budhaul, with the intent of marrying her. The survivor was recovered on June 4, 2023, and Mithun Kumar was arrested the same day.
