Four men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and trespassing following a police incident on Friday near Westhorpe, Stowmarket. The arrests occurred after police responded to reports of suspected hare coursing on private land. The suspects, traveling in a blue Jeep, were spotted by officers as they joined the westbound A14 near Elmswell.
The driver of the Jeep attempted to evade law enforcement by driving the wrong way on the A14. The occupants then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot towards woodland near the Howard Estate in Bury St Edmunds, where they were pursued and apprehended by officers. Two of the men also face charges for failing to stop and dangerous driving.
Rolling road blocks were implemented on the A14 in both directions for approximately 35 minutes as a result of the incident. The vehicle and five dogs were seized by police. The arrested individuals were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
