Dhaba Attack: 7 Charged in Manipuri Musician's Slaying
19 Oct
Summary
- Seven individuals charged in connection with a Manipuri musician's fatal assault.
- Attack followed a dispute over loud noise outside the victim's residence.
- Investigators are examining a potential racial motive behind the killing.
A chargesheet has been filed against seven individuals in Saket court concerning the murder of Chongtham Vikram Singh, a 54-year-old musician from Manipur. The extensive document, over 500 pages long, is supported by statements from more than 30 witnesses.
The accused, all employed at a dhaba, allegedly attacked Singh on September 6. The incident began when Singh went downstairs to object to loud noise emanating from outside his home. He was followed upstairs by eight men and assaulted in front of his son before the attackers fled.
Authorities have included charges of criminal conspiracy, murder by a group, and trespassing. The accused reportedly intended to 'teach him a lesson' for complaining about noise, not anticipating a fatal outcome. Police are actively investigating all facets of the case, including the possibility of a racial motive.
Singh had previously voiced concerns about the noise from the nearby dhaba to its owner. Although no formal complaints were lodged with the police regarding the noise, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing.
