Summary
- 51-year-old woman charged with assault and perverting justice
- Allegedly threw "ammonia or similar corrosive substance" at 46-year-old victim
- Incident occurred on Sunday evening in Glasgow's Buchanan Street

On Sunday, November 10th, 2025, a 51-year-old woman named Gwen Dempster appeared in court after an alleged attack in Glasgow's city center. According to the court papers, Dempster, from the Govan area of Glasgow, is accused of assaulting a 46-year-old woman on Buchanan Street around 6:20 PM.
The incident is said to have involved Dempster "discharging a quantity of ammonia or a similar corrosive substance from a bottle" at the victim, causing injury and endangering her life. Dempster also faces a charge of possessing ammonia in a public place.
Additionally, Dempster is accused of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards police officers, including providing them with false details, which led to a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, but the extent of her injuries is currently unknown. Chief Inspector Stephen McManus acknowledged this was a "worrying incident" and assured the public that officers would be in the area to address any concerns.
This incident comes just days after another attack involving a harmful substance in East Kilbride, where a 30-year-old woman was targeted in what police described as a "deliberate attack." However, that victim did not require hospital treatment.
