A poignant 5,000km run, featuring around 200 participants clad in red, was held to honor Henry Nowak. The 18-year-old, who lived in Chafford Hundred, Essex, was fatally stabbed on December 3rd as he walked home in Southampton. His convicted killer received a life sentence in June.
Organized by Mary McLoughlin of Chafford Hundred Running Club, the event aimed to support Nowak's family and demonstrate community solidarity. It successfully united people from various faiths and backgrounds, with contributions from local businesses like Morrisons, the Sikh community offering food, and a local church providing refreshments and facilities.
The run, described as both fantastic and emotional, raised over £600 for 2wish, a charity dedicated to supporting families affected by the sudden death of young individuals. The event was attended by Jen Craft, the MP for Thurrock, who praised it as an example of "Thurrock at its best," and Nowak's mother, Lucy Ross, who expressed gratitude for the community's support.
