A Lucknow court recently convicted three individuals, Mohd Raj, Mohammad Shafeek, and Jangli alias Haseen, in a significant narcotics trafficking case. The court sentenced each of the Barabanki residents to 10 years imprisonment and imposed a ₹1 lakh fine.
The conviction stems from a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) operation on November 16, 2022. Acting on intelligence, NCB officers intercepted Mohd Raj near Baikunth Dham, recovering 500 grams of alprazolam. Investigations revealed the drug was sourced from Mathura and intended for Mohammad Shafeek and Jangli alias Haseen in Barabanki.
The court deemed the recovered alprazolam to be of commercial quantity, possessed for sale, and emphasized the severe societal impact of drug trafficking. The NCB commended the conviction and urged the public to utilize the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline at 1933 for reporting drug-related information confidentially.
