Cambodia Nabs 26 in South Korea Scam Ring

A significant crackdown by a joint investigative team of Cambodian and South Korean police has resulted in the apprehension of 26 individuals. These suspects are alleged to be involved in sophisticated online scams and egregious sex crimes directed at South Korean citizens. The operation, supported by South Korea's intelligence agency, highlights successful bilateral cooperation in combating transnational crime.

The accused are believed to have extorted a substantial amount, totaling approximately 26.7 billion won (about $18.25 million), from 165 South Koreans. Their modus operandi involved impersonating police officers and financial regulators to deceive their victims. Beyond financial fraud, the suspects face severe accusations of coercing multiple female victims into producing and distributing sex videos and photographs.

Following their arrests in Cambodia, the suspects are slated for extradition to South Korea, where they will face legal proceedings and potential punishment. This swift action underscores a firm stance against criminal networks exploiting citizens through online deception and sexual exploitation, aiming to bring perpetrators to justice.
