A fast-track court in Kinnaur delivered a severe sentence on September 26, 2026, condemning two men to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the gang rape of a 32-year-old woman. Judge Neha Dahiya stated that sexual assault "degrades the soul of the victim," asserting that leniency would be unjust to the survivor who was "dehumanized" by the attackers. The convicts, identified as Tabrez Alam and Lakhinder, were also each fined ₹9,000. The court highlighted that rape is a heinous crime against society and women's dignity, leaving deep psychological and social scars.
The brutal incident occurred on September 26, 2025. The victim, a mother of three, was accosted by Tabrez Alam while returning home from a local event. She was forcibly taken into a vehicle driven by Lakhinder and driven to a secluded area where she endured nearly two hours of assault. Her family alerted the police when she did not return, and she was later found on National Highway-05, where she recounted the harrowing ordeal. Prosecution successfully proved the charges through witness testimonies and a DNA report, confirming common intention to commit the crimes.
