In Haridwar, a fast-track court has delivered a 20-year prison sentence to Himanshu Kamle, 29, for the 2022 rape of a 15-year-old girl, an act that led to her pregnancy.
Kamle, a daily wager from Meerut, was also fined Rs 15,000. The court directed the state government to provide Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the victim within one month.
The incident came to light in September 2022 when the victim fell ill. An ultrasound revealed she was six weeks pregnant. She alleged that Kamle had been harassing her and subsequently raped her, threatening her life if she spoke out.
