14 Feb
Summary
- A man was jailed for rape after 20 years due to a DNA breakthrough.
- The attack occurred in October 2006 in Shefford, Bedfordshire.
- Advances in forensic science led to his arrest in November 2022.

A rape committed two decades ago has resulted in a six-year prison sentence for the perpetrator, Kennedy Jimmy, following a significant DNA breakthrough. The assault occurred in October 2006 when Jimmy, then 25, encountered the victim and her friend in a supermarket car park in Shefford, Bedfordshire.
While the victim's friend was inside a shop, Jimmy forcibly took the girl to the back of a car and raped her. An initial investigation at the time failed to identify the assailant, known only as 'Kenny'.
Justice was eventually served due to advances in forensic science. A specialist review of historical cases by a major crime unit in November 2022 uncovered a DNA match.
This match led to the arrest of Jimmy, now 44, who was living in Staffordshire. He was convicted of rape in October and sentenced at Luton Crown Court to six years imprisonment, accompanied by a lifelong restraining order. This case highlights that time is not a barrier to justice.
