3 Oct
Summary
- Couple shot dead and bodies hidden in a cowshed in 1993.
- An 87-year-old man arrested was released with no further action.
- Original conviction of another suspect was later quashed on appeal.

The 1993 unsolved murders of Harry and Megan Tooze, discovered on their farm near Llanharry, Wales, continue to baffle authorities. The couple was tragically shot dead in their cowshed, with their bodies concealed under hay bales. Investigations in July 1993 revealed the gruesome scene after their daughter raised concerns when unable to contact them.
In December of last year, an 87-year-old man was arrested in connection with the double murder. However, South Wales Police have now confirmed that the pensioner faces no further action and has been released. The force's Major Crime Investigation Team is continuing a forensic review of the case.
This notorious cold case has a history of legal complexity. Jonathan Jones was initially convicted of the murders in 1995 and sentenced to life imprisonment, but his conviction was quashed on appeal in 1996. The conviction was based in part on Jones's fingerprint found on a teacup at the crime scene.
Detective Superintendent Mark O'Shea reiterated the commitment to solving the crime, which occurred over three decades ago. He urged anyone with information, no matter how old, to contact the police to aid in securing justice for the Tooze family. The case remains one of Wales' most prominent unsolved murders.
