19 Feb
Summary
- Man arrested for cheating over 15 lakh property deal.
- Fraudster posed as landowner to sell non-existent plots.
- Police apprehended the suspect after a complaint was filed.

In Uthiramerur, near Kancheepuram, a property fraud case involving 15 lakh rupees has led to an arrest. A 45-year-old man named Baskaran was apprehended by the Virugambakkam police crime wing.
Baskaran reportedly introduced himself to a 51-year-old victim, Balachandar, in 2024. He falsely claimed ownership of land in Kamadhenu Nagar and offered two residential plots for sale. Balachandar agreed to purchase the plots and paid Baskaran 15 lakh through a combination of bank transfers and cash.
However, Baskaran continually postponed the property transfer, raising suspicions. Balachandar's subsequent investigation revealed that Baskaran was not the landowner. The property actually belonged to another individual, and Baskaran had orchestrated a scam to defraud him of the substantial sum.
Following the discovery, Balachandar lodged a complaint with the police. The police acted swiftly on the complaint, arresting Baskaran, who was subsequently presented before a magistrate court.
