Summary
- Doctor denies most of the defamatory posts she is accused of.
- Hospital seeks ₹125 crore in damages over alleged social media posts.
- Doctor claims harassment and lack of action on her grievances.
A first-year general surgery trainee, Dr. Asiya Khan Luqman, has denied publishing most of the social media posts that led Saifee Hospital Trust to file a ₹125 crore defamation lawsuit against her. The hospital alleges her posts, made between April and June, were intended to arm-twist them and divert attention from her own alleged misconduct.
Luqman contends that only one post on July 2 was hers, published due to desperation because her grievances remained unaddressed, and she felt compelled to work in a hostile environment. She stated that she neither knew nor consented to the publication of other posts from her X account. She further alleges routine work from 7 am to 10 pm without days off and ill-treatment from a senior resident.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) advised the hospital on July 13 to facilitate counseling and maintain a trainee-friendly environment. However, Luqman asserts the hospital made no amends, leaving her feeling targeted and subjected to toxicity over her complaints.
