A 12-year-old student at Reseda High School in Los Angeles has died after being struck in the head with a metal water bottle. The incident occurred on February 17 when the girl allegedly intervened to protect her sister from bullying.
Her family claims a classmate threw the bottle, which caused an initial injury. Although treated and released the same day, she later suffered a brain hemorrhage and collapsed. She was placed in an induced coma at UCLA's Children's Hospital and underwent surgery.
She passed away early Thursday morning due to heart failure, according to her uncle. The Los Angeles Police Department has initiated a homicide investigation, stating no further details will be released due to the involvement of juveniles.
Friends and family are seeking justice, with one friend organizing a protest at the school. A GoFundMe has been established to cover medical and funeral expenses, raising nearly $26,000. A service is scheduled for March 22.
