A 101-year-old woman, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, was arrested on Saturday in Nigeria's Ogun state for allegedly selling cannabis. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that the centenarian, a great-grandmother, was found with retail sachets of skunk weighing 90 grams. She claims she resorted to the illicit trade after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire.
Ogunmabo has been released on bail, a decision directed by NDLEA chief executive Mohamed Marwa due to her advanced age, along with a directive for counseling. Her daughter has also been arrested in connection with the alleged drug supply. The NDLEA also reported significant drug seizures along Nigeria's maritime routes and its first seizure of illicit drugs shipped from Thailand.
