Uttar Pradesh Launches Affordable Housing Schemes Ahead of Diwali

In a move to provide affordable housing options for families in Uttar Pradesh, the state government is preparing to launch over a dozen new greenfield township projects across key cities. According to the article, the state government held a meeting with housing development authorities and issued directives to expedite the land aggregation process to ensure the schemes are launched before the upcoming Diwali festival.

While some of the housing schemes are expected to be launched as early as September 2023, the remaining 11 projects are planned to be floated ahead of Diwali. The cities where these new townships will be established include Aligarh, Meerut, Jhansi, Mathura, Agra, Moradabad, Kanpur, Firozabad, Bulandshahr, Banda, Ayodhya, Rampur, and Saharanpur.

To fund these initiatives, the state government has allocated a significant corpus of over ₹6,000 crore for 30 schemes under the chief minister's new township program. Specific budgets have been set aside for the development of townships in Moradabad (₹400 crore), Saharanpur (₹306 crore), and Rampur (₹292 crore). The state has agreed to fund 50% of the land acquisition cost, which will be repaid over 20 years.

The housing department's principal secretary, P Guruprasad, recently held a review meeting to assess the current status of these township projects, indicating the government's commitment to expediting the process and delivering affordable housing options to the people of Uttar Pradesh.
