Stranded Travelers Struggle to Get Home Amid Air Canada Strike
19 Aug
Summary
- Rockwood, Ontario family stranded in Scotland after Air Canada flight cancellation
- Lack of communication from Air Canada leaves travelers frustrated
- Tentative deal reached, but full service restoration may take over a week
On August 19, 2025, a family from Rockwood, Ontario found themselves stranded in Scotland after their Air Canada flight home was cancelled due to the recent strike. The Frasers had flown to Scotland on August 9th to visit family and attend a concert, but when they tried to return on August 15th, they received an email from Air Canada stating their flight had been cancelled.
The lack of communication from the airline has been the most frustrating part for the Frasers. They were left to figure out their own accommodations after being told to vacate their Airbnb, with no guidance from Air Canada on how to handle the additional costs. "The lack of any communication from [Air Canada] is appalling," said Barry Fraser.
Fortunately, a tentative agreement was reached between Air Canada and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) on August 15th, ending the strike. However, Air Canada has warned that it may take over a week to fully restore their services. In the meantime, the Frasers have had to book a flight to Buffalo, New York, and will have to find their own way home from there.
