SBI Receives Over 6.87 Lakh Customer Complaints in FY25

As of August 17, 2025, Indian banks have continued to register a significant number of customer complaints in the fiscal year 2025 (FY25), though a few lenders reported a slight improvement compared to the previous year.
State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest lender, received the highest number of customer complaints in FY25, with over 6.87 lakh grievances. Of these, 1.05 lakh were still pending resolution as of March-end. The majority of the complaints pertained to unauthorized electronic debit transactions. SBI also received 12,502 complaints regarding delays in the delivery of essential services, including loan sanctions, up from 7,223 in FY24. Additionally, the bank received 21.50 lakh "other" category complaints, which include all categories other than cyber security and delivery of essential services, down from 24.02 lakh in the previous fiscal year.
Among private banks, Axis Bank topped the list, facing 4.97 lakh customer complaints related to delays in the delivery of essential services in FY25, with 8,782 pending resolution as of March-end. The lender also received 76,111 "other" category complaints, 12,744 related to advertising, and 4,438 regarding unfair trade practices.
Other major banks, such as Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda, also saw a substantial number of customer complaints in FY25, with 11.39 lakh and 5.34 lakh complaints, respectively. The majority of the complaints were related to internet, mobile, and electronic banking, as well as issues with ATM and debit cards.
