Summary
- Roku launches new streaming platform Howdy for $2.99/month
- Howdy offers 10,000 hours of ad-free content from major studios
- Roku aims to complement, not compete with, premium streaming services

On August 3rd, 2025, Roku announced the launch of its new streaming platform, Howdy. Priced at just $2.99 per month, Howdy is an ad-free, video-on-demand service that provides access to nearly 10,000 hours of content from major studios.
Roku's founder and CEO, Anthony Wood, stated that Howdy is designed to complement, not compete with, premium streaming services. The platform will house a diverse library of movies and shows, including popular titles like "Mad Max: Fury Road," "The Blind Side," "Weeds," and "Kids in the Hall," as well as iconic rom-coms, medical dramas, '90s comedies, and feel-good classics.
The launch of Howdy marks a continuation of Roku's strategy to expand its platform monetization and subscription offerings. With a reach of over 125 million people per day, Roku has become an attractive partner for studios like Lionsgate, who see the service as a way to provide more accessible and affordable entertainment options to consumers.
Howdy will initially be available on the Roku platform, but the company plans to roll it out on mobile and additional platforms in the near future. The new service adds to Roku's growing slate of entertainment subscription offerings, which includes the recently acquired Frndly TV.
