On September 11, 2025, Puducherry's Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan outlined the government's commitment to improving connectivity and the business climate in the Union Territory. Kailashnathan stated that efforts are underway to make the Puducherry railway station a terminal station, allowing for the start of train services to Karaikal and destinations across southern Tamil Nadu.
Additionally, steps are being taken to expand the Puducherry airport to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft. The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the potential of the port at Karaikal, another key infrastructure project. To further enhance connectivity, the widening of the East Coast Road between Villupuram and Nagapattinam via Karaikal is progressing rapidly and expected to be completed by next year.
Alongside these infrastructure initiatives, the Puducherry government is also focused on improving the business environment. Kailashnathan welcomed the decision to table the Ease of Doing Business Bill in the upcoming Assembly session, which aims to simplify 26 areas related to starting and operating industries. The legislation is expected to have a positive impact, making Puducherry an attractive destination for MSMEs.
The Home Minister, who also holds the Industries portfolio, stated that the government is planning changes to relevant Acts governing Commune Panchayats and Town and Country Planning to reduce delays in starting industries. The government has also taken steps to start allotting land in a 750-acre area at Sedarapet by November this year.
