Lack of Human Skills Impedes Workplace AI Adoption
20 Aug
Summary
- 13 human skills critical for AI success, including creativity and analytical reasoning
- Employers focus on technology, not human capabilities, for AI projects
- Soft skills more important than technical skills for job candidates today

According to a recent report, certain gaps in human skills could be hindering the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the workplace. The report, published on August 6th, 2025 by Multiverse, a leading learning and development company, identified 13 critical human skillsets that are essential for the successful implementation of AI.
These skills span across four key areas: cognitive abilities, AI responsibility, self-management, and communication. They include analytical reasoning, creativity, systems thinking, AI ethics, cultural sensitivity, and effective feedback, among others. The researchers found that while employers are investing heavily in AI technologies, their focus is often misplaced, as they view it primarily as a technological challenge rather than a human and technological challenge.
"Leaders are spending millions on AI tools, but their investment focus isn't going to succeed. They think it's a technology problem when it's really a human and technology problem," said Gary Eimerman, the Chief Learning Officer at Multiverse. "Without a deliberate focus on capabilities like analytical reasoning and creativity, as well as culture and behaviors, AI projects will never deliver up to their potential."
The report also highlighted the growing importance of soft skills in the job market. According to a recent study, 3 out of 5 employers say that soft skills are more important today than they were five years ago. Employers are now taking a more holistic approach to evaluating job candidates, considering not just their technical skills but also their values, personality, and cultural fit.
