The current Strancally Castle was constructed around 1830 and has undergone significant restoration over the past two decades by its previous owners, Michael and Giancarla Alen-Buckley. The Alen-Buckleys expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to restore the castle and are pleased that Zuckerberg intends to continue its upkeep as a family home.
Zuckerberg and Chan plan to use Strancally Castle as a base when visiting Ireland, where Meta operates its international headquarters. This acquisition marks Zuckerberg as the third tech billionaire to purchase Irish property in recent years, following Dyson founder James Dyson and Stripe co-founder John Collison. Zuckerberg had previously explored other Irish real estate options without success.
