China's EV Killer Set to Challenge Tesla in Europe

Xpeng, a burgeoning Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced its intention to produce a "killer" EV that aims to outperform Tesla's best-selling Model Y. The company aims to establish a strong presence in the European market, particularly in the premium car segment.

Xpeng recently unveiled its most affordable electric SUV, the L03, at a starting price of €35,600. This model is positioned as a direct competitor to Tesla's Model Y, which begins at €39,990. The L03 is notable for being the first Xpeng model to launch concurrently in China and Europe.

Beyond its current EV offerings, Xpeng is also investing heavily in future technologies. The company is developing flying cars and "humanlike" humanoid robots, with plans to introduce these innovations to Europe. Furthermore, Xpeng is working on its second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) software, intended to rival Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, with a potential European release from 2027 pending regulatory approval.

In its strategic expansion, Xpeng is in discussions to establish its second European manufacturing facility, with parts of Germany being a likely location. The company's self-designed Turing artificial intelligence chips are already being utilized in Volkswagen's new models in China. Xpeng also intends to license its smart driving software to other automakers, further broadening its technological influence in the automotive industry.
