Xiaomi is accelerating its automotive ambitions with the launch of its new Sky Nomad SUV series. This extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) line, known in Chinese as Xiaomi Pengcheng, signifies a strategic expansion beyond sedans and crossovers.
The company seeks to establish automobiles as a significant revenue pillar, particularly as its traditional smartphone and home appliance markets mature and growth slows globally. Xiaomi's EVs are marketed as technologically advanced Chinese alternatives to established players like Tesla.
Despite significant investment and narrower profit margins in the costly auto business, Xiaomi's SU7 sedan and YU7 crossover have shown progress. As of the end of June 2026, Xiaomi had delivered 258,232 YU7 crossovers in China since its launch in June 2025. The company plans to begin vehicle exports to Europe next year, aiming to capture a growing market segment.
