X and Advertisers Settle Lawsuit
29 Jul
Summary
- SpaceX's X platform and WFA settled litigation over an advertiser boycott.
- A judge dismissed X's antitrust lawsuit in March, citing no demonstrable harm.
- The WFA permanently discontinued the GARM initiative in August 2024.

SpaceX's X platform and the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) announced on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, that they have settled litigation. The dispute centered on allegations of an advertiser boycott linked to the now-defunct Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM).
This settlement marks a significant reset in relations between Elon Musk's social media platform and the advertising trade body. Previously, in March 2026, a U.S. judge dismissed X's antitrust lawsuit. The suit had accused the WFA and major companies of orchestrating an illegal boycott, but the judge found X had failed to demonstrate harm under federal antitrust law.
In their joint statement, the WFA reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to freedom of speech, a principle it shares with X. The trade body also confirmed the permanent discontinuation of GARM in August 2024, assuring that the initiative, launched in 2019 to set standards for ad placement away from harmful content, would not be revived.
Both organizations agreed that continued innovation in brand safety benefits brands, platforms, and consumers alike. This accord concludes a period of legal and public disagreement between X and the WFA.
